School Meals and Kitchen Sanitation
The kitchen staff in all of our schools receive both culinary training and food products, especially protein items such as eggs and meat, to supplement the foods that are available from the government and from the children’s parents for them to cook for the children. The kitchen staff will also receive information about proper sanitation, the preserving of nutrients when cooking, and the creation of healthy, balanced weekly menus.
Parental Involvement
Parents will be involved in making nutritious snacks for the children at our schools. The school provides a snack in the morning for preschool children with ingredients given by the government.
Nutrition Classes for Parents
In our nutrition education program, parents learn basic nutritional
information and how to mix ingredients to enhance nutrition. They learn which are the most nourishing and economical products that they can use and how to make nutritious and delicious snacks for their children. They also learn how to use food, herbs and natural remedies to help children with specific health problems. We stress the importance of children seeing a doctor when necessary.
Current Conditions at Our Schools
At the present, each of our eight schools has received a stove each and three of them have received refrigerators. These were generous donations from a local furniture and appliance rental company. The appliances are used, but in good working condition. The remaining schools all need refrigerators as well as additional cooking equipment.
